What is Trauma?

Trauma comes in many forms and affects individuals in unique ways. It's essential to recognize the diversity of traumatic experiences and the wide-ranging impact they can have on mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

  • This type of trauma results from a single distressing event, such as a car accident, natural disaster, or physical assault.

  • Chronic trauma involves prolonged exposure to stressful or traumatic situations, such as ongoing abuse, neglect, or living in a war zone.

  • Complex trauma refers to exposure to multiple traumatic events, often over an extended period, typically occurring in interpersonal contexts, such as childhood abuse or neglect.

  • Involves bodily harm or injury resulting from accidents, violence, or medical procedures.

  • Emotional trauma stems from experiences that cause intense psychological distress, such as witnessing violence, betrayal, or loss.

  • Psychological trauma occurs when an individual's emotional and cognitive responses overwhelm their ability to cope effectively, leading to long-lasting psychological effects.

Recognizing these symptoms is the first step toward healing.
You are not alone in your journey, and there is support available to help you navigate the path to recovery and reclaim a sense of wholeness and well-being.

Beth Busch, LCSW

I founded Bridges to Healing to offer compassionate, client-centered psychotherapy that supports individuals on their journey toward recovery, resilience, and personal growth. I am a seasoned psychotherapist with many years of experience working in clinical settings, specializing in both mental health and addiction treatment.

I earned my Master’s degree in Social Work from Rutgers, The State University, in 2011, and have since developed extensive experience in treating trauma, substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. My approach focuses on helping clients develop practical coping skills while addressing the deeper emotional roots of distress.

Since receiving EMDR training in 2019 and becoming certified in 2024, I have seen firsthand the powerful impact EMDR therapy can have in healing trauma and unlocking lasting transformation. I integrate EMDR with traditional therapeutic techniques to create a personalized, holistic treatment plan tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals.
